Apply by 6/1/2011

The Blake School seeks to hire a dynamic and engaging part-time Mandarin teacher to teach in the Upper School (grades 9-12) and to work collaboratively and develop curricula with the Mandarin staff.  The ideal candidate will have experience with and enthusiasm for interacting cross-culturally, a strong desire to work with high school students and demonstrated interest and skills in curriculum development and Mandarin pedagogy.

At Blake, our language classes typically have 14-16 students at the Middle School and Upper School levels.  Because Mandarin was first introduced into the Blake curriculum in 2006-07, the upper level classes have been providing these students with small group instruction at the more advanced level, perhaps in anticipation of the AP in Mandarin Language. Many courses throughout the School (Pre-kindergarten through 12 grade) include content related to China and Chinese history or literature.  It is our hope that the teacher would be eager to collaborate with other colleagues to enrich the learning for students in other disciplines or divisions, as well.

The Blake School is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12, co-educational, nonsectarian, independent day school enrolling 1,384 bright, talented students from nearly 56 Twin Cities-area communities. Founded in 1900, The Blake School has the advantage of three campuses (Minneapolis, Hopkins and Wayzata) each with its own facilities designed for specific ages, schedules and activities. The mission of the school is to provide students with an excellent, academically challenging education in a diverse and supportive community committed to a common set of values.
