Position Available:Instructor or Assistant Professor in Chicana/o Studies, fixed-term position or probationary position.* (contingent on funding) (Vacancy Number 793614) Salary:Commensurate of qualifications and experience Date of Appointment:August 16, 2011 Responsibilities:

Probationary appointment: Teach courses in Chicano/a Studies (introductory, cultural expressions, contemporary issues) and an upper level course in Ethnic Studies. To be considered for tenure, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to: 1) teach and/or perform assignment effectively; 2) conduct scholarly achievement or research; 3) continue preparation and study in discipline; 4) contribute to student growth and development; and 5) provide service to the university and community.

Fixed-term position: Teach introductory courses in Chicana/o Studies and an introductory course on major U.S. communities of color; engage in community outreach; work with students both formally and informally. Note: Determination about position status (probationary or fixed-term) is subject to university approval.

Qualifications and Experience:

For consideration for a Probationary position:

Required: Ph.D. or other terminal degree from an accredited institution. Demonstrated ability to teach and work with persons from culturally diverse populations.

Preferred: Highly desired will be the candidate who has teaching and research in Chicano communities, experience in study abroad programs in Mexico, border areas and/or indigenous Latin America; ability to serve as a mentor for Chicana/o students; and knowledge of and/or experience in Chicana/o life in the U.S. Midwest. Bilingual Spanish speaking ability is also preferred.
