A local non-profit, Project Minnesota/León (PML), is hiring a new Director for their office in León, Nicaragua. PML is hiring someone who is fluent in Spanish and can make a two-year commitment for this job beginning this June, 2018. The new Director will overlap with our current Director for two months in order to be trained in to the job.

Project Minnesota/León (PML) is a secular, non-profit, sister state organization that has two goals:

    (1) to organize educational, immersion trips to bring together people from Minnesota and León, Nicaragua, so they can grow in their understanding of one another as individuals and cultures; and

    (2) to facilitate community development in León, Nicaragua, where PML mentors people so that they can learn to advocate for change in their own lives.

To achieve these goals, PML facilitates trips from Minnesota to León and arranges home stays and experiential learning opportunities, in addition to volunteer projects and sightseeing. Many groups from Minnesota will focus their trip on a specific issue that they care about (e.g., education, arts, environment, human rights, health). By traveling to Nicaragua through PML, Minnesotans will be immersed more deeply in Nicaraguan culture than a typical tourist visit allows—while forming authentic relationships and learning about PML’s approach to working in developing countries.

PML has been taking groups to Nicaragua for over 30 years (from universities, schools, churches and other organizations). PML makes it extremely easy to travel to Nicaragua. After you purchase your airplane tickets, we take care of the rest. We have bilingual staff in León, Nicaragua who will customize the group's itinerary and help organize the trip, in addition to leading the group's daily activities. Our staff will also arrange for a private bus or van to transport the group from the airport to León, and for daily activities in León. Group members stay with host families, in the same neighborhood, so that they have an authentic opportunity to meet Nicaraguans and understand their culture.

For more information about our community development work in León see our fall newsletter and our website at: http://mailchi.mp/7a6dff1c0147/spring-2017-newsletter-819301?e=68fe04c3a0 and http://mn-leon.org/projects-2/community-development-3.html

Please send a cover letter and and resume, in Spanish and English, to PML's President of the Board, Deborah Allan, at dallan@umn.edu.  For more information about PML’s mission, community development work and travel opportunities, please visit our website at www.mn-leon.org.
