ISE, a nonprofit educational organization based in Minneapolis, seeks language teachers to place students from Spain with host families.  The students will be in MN from June 25-July 30.

Position description:  Local coordinators recruit host families to host by talking to their students and parents of students about the opportunity.  This is a great way to have an ever-lasting impact on your community by providing students and families with a cross cultural experience right in their own home.

ISE will provide materials such as applications, literature about hosting, a DVD and posters to promote the program.  Local coordinators will be paid a volunteer stipend based on their involvement in the program, which can be minimal to extensive.  This is not a full time summer position.  In fact, the ongoing duties during the summer  can be quite minimal.

English is the common language so families do not need to speak Spanish and students studying any other language can host!

    THE BLAKE SCHOOL
    MANDARIN TEACHER OPENING
    Part Time
    Upper School
    2011-2012 School Year

The Blake School seeks to hire a dynamic and engaging part-time Mandarin teacher to teach in the Upper School (grades 9-12) and to work collaboratively and develop curricula with the Mandarin staff.  The ideal candidate will have experience with and enthusiasm for interacting cross-culturally, a strong desire to work with high school students and demonstrated interest and skills in curriculum development and Mandarin pedagogy.

At Blake, our language classes typically have 14-16 students at the Middle School and Upper School levels.  Because Mandarin was first introduced into the Blake curriculum in 2006-07, the upper level classes have been providing these students with small group instruction at the more advanced level, perhaps in anticipation of the AP in Mandarin Language. Many courses throughout the School (Pre-kindergarten through 12 grade) include content related to China and Chinese history or literature.  It is our hope that the teacher would be eager to collaborate with other colleagues to enrich the learning for students in other disciplines or divisions, as well.

The Blake School is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12, co-educational, nonsectarian, independent day school enrolling 1,384 bright, talented students from nearly 56 Twin Cities-area communities. Founded in 1900, The Blake School has the advantage of three campuses (Minneapolis, Hopkins and Wayzata) each with its own facilities designed for specific ages, schedules and activities. The mission of the school is to provide students with an excellent, academically challenging education in a diverse and supportive community committed to a common set of values. For more information on The Blake School, please visit Blake's Web site at: [ http://www.blakeschool.or ]http://www.blakeschool.org.

The Blake School believes that a diverse society enriches all individuals and communities. Diversity of race, ethnicity, national origin, geography, religion, gender, affectional or sexual orientation, age, physical ability, and marital, parental or economic status forms the fabric of our society. As a result of these beliefs, The Blake School actively seeks students, families and employees who value and contribute to the fullness of a diverse community within the context of its mission. In doing so, we recognize our responsibility to help make each person's experience a success.

Send cover letter and resume to Joni Starr, Personnel Assistant, The Blake School, 110 Blake Road South, Hopkins, MN 55343 or via email to [ mailto:jstarr@blakeschool.or ]jstarr@blakeschool.org. Letter(s) of recommendation and unofficial transcripts are welcome, but not required at the initial stage of the hiring process. EOE
