    Middle School Teacher Lead at QuéTal Spanish Language Program

    Qué Tal Language Program is a non-profit program founded in 2002 that provides Spanish

    language classes and cultural programs to students and families in the western suburbs of

    Minneapolis, Minnesota.

    Qué Tal serves students in the Wayzata School District from kindergarten through eighth grade

    and in the Edina School District for elementary school students, we are launching a pilot

    program with the Heillicher Jewish Day school of Minneapolis. Qué Tal focuses on effective

    communication and provides the foundation for some students to advance their language

    studies in upper grades. We use culture, music, games, and history with the daily reinforcement

    of activities and practice to keep students involved and learning.

    Qué Tal has a current enrollment of over 400 students, 22 teachers, 3 staff members, and

    Middle school teacher lead.

    Is a part-time exempt position reporting to the Executive Director. Co-responsible (with

    Elementary School TL) for the achievement of the Qué Tal program goals.

    11 month position (August through June), hours vary during the year but on average 25 hours

    per week.

    Job requirements

    Fully bilingual (Spanish native speaker preferred)

    Language Teaching experience of at least 5 yrs (teaching certification preferred)

    People management experience of at least 2 years (experience managing teachers is preferred)

    Expected to be on-site at St Barnabas Lutheran Church location (15600 Old Rockford Rd,

    Plymouth MN 55446) Mo-Th (from 2 – 6pm) and (Tue-Th) 7:30 to 8:30 am while classes are in

    session.

    Strong basic computer utilization knowledge.

    Good organizational and time management skills.

    Good interpersonal relationship skills.

    Experience managing all aspects of a small operation (Finance, Marketing, Human resources,

    client interaction) (desired).

    Position Information:

    MORE seeks a Full Time ESL teacher to participate in the mission of MORE by teaching adult refugees

    and immigrants from around the world the skills they need to achieve their educational goals, including

    English language skills, basic math, computer literacy, and the ability to apply those skills to their life and

    work.

    Position Purpose:

    To provide quality English, math, computer and life skill education to participants from a variety of

    cultures in MORE’s Education Program, allowing them greater opportunities to live and work in peace in

    the United States.

    Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

    1. Instructional Responsibilities

    A. Provide high-quality English language, basic consumer math, and digital literacy instruction

    appropriate to learners in the class.

    B. Participate in the design and development of corresponding MORE curricula.

    C. Maintain weekly or unit-based lesson plans and teaching notes in a place known to the

    Education Program Manager.

    D. Supervise volunteer tutors, providing them with support and instruction for any

    individualized or small group instruction.

    E. Keep informed of research and new developments in adult literacy education and use a

    variety of instructional techniques to address the diverse needs and goals of adult learners.

    F. Keep informed of research on language and cultural issues for MORE’s learners.

    2. Assessment and Record-keeping Responsibilities

    A. Complete daily attendance and submit electronically using MABE no later than the end of

    the week or on the last day of the month.

    B. Closely monitor student attendance and contact the Education Program office about

    students who have been absent for more than three days without notification.

    C. Comply with the assessment policies set by federal, state and consortium standards.

    D. Evaluate student achievement and communicate with the Program Office and other

    teachers regarding student movement.

    3. Staff Responsibilities

    A. Attend all MORE staff meetings and teacher meetings.

    B. Comply with all MORE staff policies.

    C. Participate in professional development activities.

    D. Collaborate with other staff members to carry out the mission of MORE and its programs.

    Necessary Qualifications:

    We are a large, high performing suburban high school located in southwest Minneapolis. We are an immersion high school where we have both Chinese and Spanish students who take part of their day in the target language. I am in the process of hiring a new Spanish teacher for next year to teach Spanish Language Arts to our immersion students. Preference will be given to those candidates who are native Spanish speakers and have experience teaching literature.
