World Languages for a 21st Century
Enhance student achievement today,
Meet societys needs for a global tomorrow
(In partnership with the Minnesota Council on the Teaching of Languages and Cultures)
Americans have growing social, cultural and economic ties to the global community, offering great opportunities but presenting new challenges as we seek to communicate with and
understand our international partners from different language and culture backgrounds; andStudying other languages has been shown to contribute to increased cognitive skills, better
academic performance and a greater understanding of others, while also providing life-long learning opportunities for people beyond school age; andProficiency in other languages enhances Americans career opportunities and provides
employers with a workforce with the necessary skills for an international marketplace.(as adopted from the 2005: Year of Languages Proclamation)
The Mission of Minnesota New Visions in Action
To address the need for world languages learning by promoting and fostering the study of languages, cultures, and international education as an integral component of Minnesota education for all students, starting at a young age.
